Privacy Policy

Our commitment

The Common Good Party believes your data belongs to you. That's not a slogan — it's Issue #21 on our platform. We hold ourselves to the same standard we demand of everyone else.

This page describes our current data practices honestly and in plain English. We do measure how people use our site, but we do it with our own privacy-respecting tools — never ad networks, and we never sell your data. If anything here is unclear, please contact the party and we'll explain.

Information you give us

When you join the party, we collect only what we need:

  • Email address — when you sign up for updates or join the party.
  • Name — when you become a member.
  • ZIP code — when you become a member, so we can connect you to your local chapter.

If you make a contribution, federal election law (the FEC) requires us to collect and keep certain donor information: your legal name, mailing address, employer, and occupation. We retain those contribution records for as long as the law requires. We do not store payment card numbers ourselves.

Analytics

We run our own analytics — self-hosted on Cloudflare. There is no Google Analytics, no ad network, and no data sold or shared with anyone. We use it to understand which pages and content are useful so we can improve the site.

For each page view we record:

  • The page path and the site that referred you.
  • Approximate location (country, region, and city) derived from your IP address at Cloudflare's edge. We do not store your IP address itself.
  • Device type, browser and operating system, screen and viewport size, language, and timezone.
  • Any campaign (UTM) tags on the link you arrived from, so we know which outreach is working.

We also measure engagement — roughly how long you spend on a page and how far you scroll — to learn which content people actually read. If you are logged in as a member, these analytics events are associated with your member account.

We also record first-party conversion events for key actions — joining, completing the quiz, using a calculator tool, subscribing to the newsletter, asking a question, or clicking an outbound link — so we can see what's working and improve it.

Alongside our own analytics, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, a privacy-first measurement tool that uses no cookies and does no cross-site tracking.

Cookies

We set just two cookies, and neither is for advertising:

  • cgp_anon — a random, anonymous session id used for analytics. It expires after 30 minutes of inactivity.
  • cgp_session — set only when you log in, to keep you signed in.

We use no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking cookies.

How we use your information

  • To send you transactional email (sign-in links, confirmations) and, if you opt in, occasional party updates.
  • To connect you with local organizing efforts in your area (using your ZIP code).
  • To understand how the site is used and improve it, through our own privacy-respecting analytics described above.
  • To meet our legal obligations, including the donor recordkeeping federal election law requires.

Email

We send two kinds of email: transactional messages you need (like sign-in links and confirmations) and, only if you opt in, updates about the party and how to get involved. You can opt out of updates at any time in your account settings or by contacting us, and we honor opt-out requests. You can also unsubscribe via your account settings or the unsubscribe link in our update emails.

What we never do

  • We never sell your data. To anyone. For any reason.
  • We never share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.
  • We never use your data for targeted political advertising.
  • We never provide your information to other campaigns, PACs, or political organizations.

Where your data lives

Your information is stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure — our D1 database and Cloudflare's edge — with encryption at rest and in transit. We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.

We keep your information for as long as you remain a member or subscriber, except where the law requires us to keep it longer — for example, the contribution records federal election law requires us to retain.

Your choices

You can, at any time:

  • Opt out of updates — change your preferences in your account settings, use the unsubscribe link in our update emails, or contact us. We honor opt-out requests.
  • Request your data — contact the party and we will share the personal data we hold on you.
  • Request deletion — contact the party and we will delete your personal data, except any records the law requires us to keep (such as FEC contribution records).

We handle these requests on a case-by-case basis when you reach out.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and notify subscribers by email. We will never weaken these protections without telling you first.

A party that demands transparency from government must start with itself. This privacy policy is written in plain English on purpose.
